Screen size at Gateway MX6912 is quite larger with its 15.4" than Acer Travelmate 2312LM with its 15".
If you think you will need more memory then you'll known than 1GB on Gateway MX6912 is better than 0.25GB on Acer Travelmate 2312LM.
Graphic card inside MX6912 is Intel 950 and other laptop uses i852GM DVMT.
These laptops don't contain dedicated RAM for graphic cards, they use part of main memory for their graphic cards.
More storage for multimedia (mpeg, avi) were available at Gateway MX6912 (more space on hard drive).
Gateway MX6912 should load programs for hard disk faster with its 5400rpm fast drive.
Bluetooth dongle available only at Acer Travelmate 2312LM is usefull if one have other bluetooth devices like some cameras, phones, etc.
Infrared connection has only Acer Travelmate 2312LM.
Firewire is available only on Gateway MX6912.
Modem is built in both laptops.
Fast network (1Gbit/s) cannot be used on its full speed on both notebooks.
Cardreader is inside only Gateway MX6912.
Disadvantage of both is lack of DVI output for connection to some modern monitors.
