In Gateway MX3414 we've found Turion X2 Dual 1.6GHz cpu and in HP Compaq nx8220 we have a pleasure to find Pentium M740 1.73GHz CPU.
Monitor in HP Compaq nx8220 is 15.4" size, better than 14.1" screen in Gateway MX3414.
For customers whose need more RAM we've found Gateway MX3414 with its 1GB better than 0.5 GB on HP Compaq nx8220.
Both Gateway MX3414 and HP Compaq nx8220 on our test had same amount of maximum RAM memory they can support - 2GB.
The RAM memory in use on both laptops is DDR2.
Graphic is built around Nvidia Go 6100 on MX3414, but graphic on other laptop is built using ATI X600.
We like that graphic card on HP Compaq nx8220 have own video memory (64MB) and therefore its faster since it doesn't use main memory and mainboard controller is less loaded.
Gateway MX3414 laptop is more suitable with its 100GB hard drive for storing bunch of media files like music .
If you need bluetooth don't forget the fact that it is available only at HP Compaq nx8220 laptop.
Infrared is built-in just in HP Compaq nx8220.
You might need firewire for attaching some devices (rarely) and these laptops don't have it.
Only Gateway MX3414 has PCMCIA.
Cardreader in Gateway MX3414 can read 4 different card types and in HP Compaq nx8220 can read 1 different card types.
It is bad that these laptops cannot be connected to some new monitors since they don't have DVI.
