Central processor unit in Gateway MP8708 is Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz and in Microstar 262B is Core Duo T2300 1.6GHz.
We like more Gateway MP8708 17" inch screen than Microstar 262B's 12.1" size.
More RAM on Gateway MP8708 means less swapping on hard drive. MP8708 had 2GB. Microstar 262B had only 0.5GB of RAM which might not suit users who wants to run many programs at once.
Both Gateway MP8708 and Microstar 262B on our test use same type of RAM memory - DDR2.
Video card inside MP8708 is Intel 950 and other laptop has Intel 945GM inside.
Gateway MP8708 had more hard disk space (160 GB) - definetly something which users who think to hold movies on it will certainly like.
Lack of bluetooth on Gateway MP8708 might mean that you will have to buy externall bluetooth dongle for manipulating pictures from handy or camera.
If you have infrared enabled devices if you buy Gateway MP8708 you won't be able to communicate with them.
These models have firewire (IEEE 1394) communication device embedded.
No PCMCIA on model Microstar 262B. It is needed by some TV cards .
Cardreaders in both laptops are able to read 4 card types.
Disadvantage of both is lack of DVI output for connection to some modern TFT monitors.
These laptops aren't very good for Internet telephony since they haven't web camera.
Operating system on Gateway MP8708 is XP Media Center and on Microstar 262B is XP Home.
Only Gateway MP8708 has some additional software : Works 8.5, Money 2006.
