CPU on our Gateway MX6448 we've tested was Turion X2 Dual 1.6GHz, and on Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 was Pentium M778 Ultra Low Voltage.
Screen size on Gateway MX6448 is larger, 15.4 comparing to 13.3 on Panasonic Toughbook CF-29.
Although memory could easily be expanded, 1GB on MX6448 versus 0.5GB on Toughbook CF-29 might be significant difference.
Graphic is built around ATI XPRESS 1150 on MX6448, but graphic on other laptop is built using Intel 915GMS.
Up to 64MB main RAM memory is in use for video on Toughbook CF-29 and up to 128MB on MX6448.
Gateway MX6448 had more storage for multimedia files on its hard disk.
Bluetooth connection, useful for sharing multimedia data with cameras , is available only on Panasonic Toughbook CF-29.
Only Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 is able to communicate with some small devices using infrared connection.
There are no firewire built-in on Panasonic Toughbook CF-29.
PCMCIA is available only on Gateway MX6448 and it is needed by some TV cards, external hard drives and external modems.
Only model MX6448 have cardreader inside.
Floppy drive is embedded in Panasonic Toughbook CF-29, but we see this as disadvantage since floppy disks are unreliable and obsolete.
It is bad that these notebooks cannot be connected to some new monitors since they don't have DVI.
There are no web camera in both notebooks which makes them bad for video conferencing and Internet telephony.
Operating system on MX6448 is XP Media Center and on Toughbook CF-29 is XP Pro.
There are additional software only on Gateway MX6448 and it is Works 8.5, Money 2006.
Notable advantages of these laptops are : protection on vibrATIon, water, high temperatures and dust, touchpad and touchscreen for Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 and for Gateway MX6448.
