CPU on our Gateway MP8708 we've tested was Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz, and on Gateway MX3414 was Turion X2 Dual 1.6GHz.
Screen size at Gateway MP8708 is quite larger with its 17" than Gateway MX3414 with its 14.1".
Gateway MP8708 model we've tested had more RAM (2GB) than Gateway MX3414 (1GB).
Weight of Gateway MX3414 is only 2.4kg, but Gateway MP8708 is heavier with 3.45kg.
Graphic card in Gateway MP8708 is Intel 950 and in notebook Gateway MX3414 is Nvidia Go 6100.
Up to 128MB of memory is substracted from mainboard for video card in use.
More storage for multimedia (mpeg, avi) were available at Gateway MP8708 (greater space on hard disk).
Gateway MP8708 has faster hard drive (with 5400rpm).
There are firewire built-in only on Gateway MP8708.
These laptops have PCMCIA.
Both laptops have built-in internal modem which you need somewhere where broadband internet isn't available.
Cardreader is inside both laptops.
Disadvantage of both is lack of DVI output for connection to some modern TFT monitors.
Quite disadvantage of both models is lack of web camera which is needed for Internet telephony.
