CPU on our Gateway MP8708 we've tested was Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz, and on Gateway MX6912 was Core Duo T2300E 1.66GHz.
We prefere 17 inch wide screen size at model MP8708 than 15.4 built at model MX6912.
More RAM on Gateway MP8708 means less swapping on hard drive. MP8708 had 2GB. Gateway MX6912 had only 1GB of RAM which might not suit users who wants to run many programs at once.
For people who travells , Gateway MX6912 might be better choise because of 2.86kg in weight, comparing to 3.45kg weight with Gateway MP8708.
Intel 950 is built-in graphic card on both notebooks.
When running they both took up to 128MB of memory from mainboard for graphic card.
Gateway MP8708 had more storage for multimedia files (like mp3, avi) on its hard disk.
Same rotating speed (5400) is declared for their hard drives.
Internal modem is available in both models and you will need it at some rare location without proper Internet .
Both notebooks have cardreader.
They don't have DVI for new LCD monitors.
Both notebooks have 4 USB ports each.
Operating system on Gateway MP8708 is XP Media Center and on Gateway MX6912 is XP Home.
