We think 17 inch screen at Pavilion dv9056ea is better than 13.3 inch screen wide at Vaio VGN-SZ220.
HP Pavilion dv9056ea laptop have finer maximum screen resolution(1440x900) than other (1280x800).
More RAM means less swapping when you run many programs at once and therefore HP Pavilion dv9056ea with 2GB RAM is better choise than Sony Vaio VGN-SZ220 with 1GB.
Sony Vaio VGN-SZ220 supports more maximum amount of RAM (2) than HP Pavilion dv9056ea (-1GB).
Video card inside Vaio VGN-SZ220 is Nvidia Go 7400 and other laptop has Nvidia Go 7600 inside.
If you have some bluetooth devices if you buy Sony Vaio VGN-SZ220 you will need external bluetooth dongle which is not excellent idea.
Infrared is built-in just in HP Pavilion dv9056ea.
